Robert Blomfield’s most prolific phase came while he was studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh, a roughly 10-year period during which he produced some of his finest street photography. The Scottish capital still holds a special place in his heart, and Robert and his family are therefore delighted that his first book contains a collection of his favourite black-and-white pictures of ‘Auld Reekie’, taken between 1957 and 1966.
Published by Bluecoat Press, this high quality 192 page coffee-table hardback offers a rare glimpse of postwar Scotland, and includes many of the images that were exhibited at his record-breaking show at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh: candid portraits and group shots, children playing amongst crumbling tenements, public gatherings, student life and the evolving urban landscape of the time.
Also included is an appendix of stories about some of the pictures, from people who recognised themselves and others at the CAC show. Their tales are told here for the first time.
The book retails for £28 and is available to purchase via the Bluecoat Press website.
